FROM TRIBUTARY TO FIRST PICK

We took ourselves on as a client.

After nearly a decade in business, the studio has grown, the work is strong, and we’ve become known for what we do. We did not need to reinvent ourselves. But after helping so many businesses evolve, we felt ready to look more closely at our own.

So we stepped back, asked bigger questions, and explored what the next version of the studio could become.

Where Tributary came in

Tributary reflected our Pacific Northwest roots and the way we worked, bringing strategy, design, and collaboration together in support of our clients’ larger goals.

As the studio grew, so did the work. Branding expanded into packaging, websites, storefronts, and all the places a business needs to show up.

The meaning still felt true, but the name spoke more to our process than the outcome we help create.

Taking ourselves through the process

We approached our own brand with the same depth we bring to our clients.

We studied the market and found a category filled with restrained, predominantly black-and-white identities. They gave client work room to lead, but often left the studios themselves looking similar.

We wanted both, a brand that felt sophisticated and flexible but also unmistakably ours.

Finding the idea underneath the work

Beyond how the brand should look, we asked:

What are we really helping people achieve?

The same images kept appearing. A hand reaching for a product. A finger pressing add to cart. A person opening the right door.

Across every kind of project, our work keeps moving toward the same outcome:

Being noticed.

Being understood.

Being trusted.

Being chosen.

We’re helping businesses become easier to choose.

Why First Pick

First Pick names the outcome we want for every brand we build.

The product someone reaches for. The business they remember. The name that stays front of mind when it is time to make a decision.

Being the first pick is not about being the loudest. It comes from knowing what makes you valuable, communicating it clearly, and creating an experience people want to return to.

A new name, not a new direction

First Pick is a clearer expression of what we have been building all along.

We still bring strategy, design, and execution together. We still look beyond the immediate deliverable to understand the whole business. And we still make space each quarter to support a nonprofit organization through our work.

Tributary spoke to the streams coming together. First Pick speaks to where they are leading.

Nearly a decade of helping good businesses become the obvious choice.

Our name has changed. Our belief in the work has only grown stronger.
